Ward/family Units are formed in the manner of Basic Christian Community [BCC] which is described in the Acts of the Apostles 2,42: They preserved in listening to the apostles' teaching, in the fellowship, in the breaking of the bread and in prayers.
To maintain the spirit of the BCC in our particular context, the ward/family units are of great help. |

Syro Malabar Dioceses in India promotes Ward/Family Units to foster the above essential characters in it's members. St. Thomas Syro Malabar Church in Qatar replicated the practice of its Mother Church. It gives oppurtunities to parish members to know each other through closer interactions.

Ward/Family units are formed in a particular region within the parish, convenient for the members residing there to assemble together. Number of members within a unit is limited to fifty. If the number of members within a given region are more than fifty, additional units shall be started. All members of the unit will assemble together at the house of one of its members, decided in the previous meeting, at a fixed day and time of every month. Meeting shall begin by the elder member of the assembled house with angelus, followed by Rosary, Bible reading and spontaneous prayers. Oppurtunities shall be given to children at the end of prayers to foster their talents. Meetings shall end with attendance call and Spartan snacks. The whole meeting should not exceed 1 1/2 hours.

The
formation of each unit is strictly as per the guidance
of the parish. A Central Committee functioning under
the Parish Priest and a Convener monitors its functions.
Formation and meetings of each unit shall be reported
to the Parish Priest. A President, Secretary and Treasurer
each are elected by the members in every unit to take
care of continuous activity of units. Informations regarding
the unit meetings shall be made in the parish announcements.
It is mandatory for all members of the parish to be
a member of the ward unit of that area where they reside.
